Who is responsible for your child during general anesthesia or sedation at MediLavia?
At MediLavia, the safety of pediatric sedation and anesthesia is built into the clinic as a system rather than offered as a separate service. It combines careful patient selection, established protocols, a competent team and reliable technical infrastructure.
Pre-operative assessment and risk stratification
Before any sedation or anesthesia, the child undergoes a pre-operative assessment: an examination by a pediatrician and an anesthesiologist, a review of the medical history, comorbidities, allergies, previous surgery, episodes of bronchospasm, sleep apnea and other risk factors.
Standardized scales and checklists are used to assess anesthetic risk and to decide which type of pain relief (nitrous oxide, light/moderate sedation, general anesthesia) is safe for a particular child. Risks are not just recorded but managed: if needed, additional tests, adjustments to treatment or postponing the procedure until the child’s condition is stable are planned.
Competent staff and proven experience
Sedation and anesthesia are provided by anesthesiologists and pediatricians with proven experience in working with children and completed specialist courses in pediatric anesthesiology and intensive care. Staff competencies are reassessed regularly: at least once a year there is an assessment of knowledge and practical skills, protocol updates, internal audits and case reviews.
The clinic runs simulation training for emergencies (respiratory arrest, anaphylaxis, acute hemodynamic disorders); the team practices acting according to rehearsed algorithms rather than improvising.
Technical infrastructure and anesthetic support
- The power supply is duplicated, and critical equipment (ventilators, monitors, pumps) is protected against power outages and has backup sources
- Medical gases are supplied according to regulations: oxygen, air and nitrous oxide — with pressure monitoring and backup cylinders
- Anesthesiologists’ workstations are equipped with modern monitors that continuously track the child’s oxygen saturation, heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and other parameters
An organizational culture of safety
MediLavia’s management supports a culture of open discussion of safety issues: critical cases are reviewed at conferences, pathways and protocols are updated, and staff are encouraged to identify risks “before the event”. For parents, this means that pediatric sedation and anesthesia are backed not only by “a good doctor” but by a complete system: a well-planned pre-operative assessment and selection, clear standards for choosing the type of pain relief, a team that regularly confirms its qualifications and technical facilities designed to work in any conditions.
